The George Washington University seeks a Director for its Center for Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, a university-wide office providing a wide range of services for students learning about and applying for national fellowship and research opportunities. The Center fosters a culture of excellence in scholarship and service among undergraduates by informing students of the opportunities provided by prestigious national fellowship and research awards, and by implementing a variety of programs to cultivate student interest in and qualifications for these awards. The Director collaborates closely with faculty and administrators throughout the University to prepare students for these opportunities. The Director reports to the Executive Director, Honors, Fellowships and Research and is expected to supervise one staff person.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in an academic discipline in the liberal arts and sciences is required, and a doctorate with at least 3 years of college teaching is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have experience working directly with Honors-caliber students as well as with University faculty and administrators. Key characteristics of the new Director will include: excellent communications, administrative and organizational skills; capacity for designing and implementing educational programs necessary for student success; ability to engage faculty in the crucial tasks of mentoring, evaluating and providing constructive feedback to student applicants.

Senator Kennedy’s Judiciary Committee Office Seeks Unpaid Administrative Interns

Senator Kennedy’s Judiciary committee staff handles all judiciary issues that come before the U.S. Senate, including: Constitutional, civil rights, and criminal law; judicial nominations; immigration and refugees, patent, trademark and copyright law; and other issues relating to the administration of justice. Administrative intern responsibilities include answering phones, preparing briefing books, attending hearings, and other administrative tasks. Interns are exposed to substantive aspects of policy formation and the legislative process.

Interns are expected to have strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. College students and recent grads majoring in political science, pre-law, public policy, or other social sciences are encouraged to apply. Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Major Scholarships, University Honors Program.

The Office of Major Scholarship Advisement was established in 2003 to provide support and guidance to students seeking national scholarships and fellowships and to serve as the central coordinating office for the institution for nationally competitive scholarships.

The University seeks a person with energy and initiative who can provide leadership in the development of the Office of Major Scholarship Advisement. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of the Honors Program and assist in the administration and supervision of, and recruitment of on-campus candidates for, major nationally competitive scholarships (such as the Rhodes, Truman, Marshall, and NSF). The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties including serving on campus committees and leading the Major Scholarship Council. The person is responsible for developing and facilitating systems to: identify potential applicants early in their academic careers; recruit, guide, and mentor students through the application process; coordinate final application materials; groom candidates for interviews; conduct workshops for outstanding students; help prepare faculty members to serve as mentors and advise faculty on drafting letters of support for students; promote awareness about nationally competitive scholarships; develop and maintain the major scholarship website; and submit a written annual report for the Director of the University Honors Program. The Assistant Director will act as the liaison to directors of national foundations and scholarship programs, hold membership in NAFA and attend national meetings to stay current with the changing framework for fellowships and scholarships.

Applicants must possess a Master's degree, have familiarity with the administration of nationally competitive scholarships at a 4-year university in the United States, and have at least 3 years' experience in team-building, public relations, and conference planning and facilitation. The Assistant Director must have a broad understanding of the process of major scholarship competition, high computer liter­acy, a commitment to enriched undergraduate education, and the ability to speak and write effectively and clearly. Flight 93 Memorial - 2 Seasonal Positions

Flight 93 National Memorial is seeking candidates for two (2) seasonal positions for 2008.  Both positions are temporary and will last 12 weeks.


One position will start in May or June 2008 and last until July or August. The second position will start in August and last until October.  The pay and grade for these positions is a GS-05 at $14.24 per hour, working 40 hours per week.  Both positions will work on the weekends. 


The primary responsibilities include: provide basic interpretation to visitors at the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania provide visitor services and information such as directions, area attractions and services, etc. assist with facilitating focus group discussions with visitors about the meaning of Flight 93 in preparation for an Interpretive Plan for the memorial assist with special events, parking and traffic control, motorcoach tours, and school groups provide a point of contact in emergency situations for the safety of the visitor and volunteers complete daily reports and visitor statistics maintain supplies and brochures, and minimal site clean-up.


Some duties will be assigned to be completed in the Flight 93 National Memorial planning office in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Basic computer skills are required.  A uniform will be provided. There is no housing available.

University Fellowships Office Director Position

The vice president and dean for Undergraduate Education announces a search for the director of the University Fellowships Office. The position will be available in March.

The University Fellowships Office promotes opportunities for Penn State students to compete successfully for major national and international awards and scholarships and provides information and resources concerning competitive scholarships. This includes early identification of potential candidates and information and advice concerning appropriate preparation, which often involves interviews, practice sessions and processes for preparing effective applications. The director assembles panels of faculty who have the appropriate expertise to make selections and nominations and to mentor candidates.
          
The director must keep abreast of current opportunities and selection processes and work vigorously to ensure access to all appropriate awards for Penn State students. This includes scheduling and offering informational sessions and workshops for students in appropriate disciplines or in coordination with strategically selected colleges and departments and maintaining a close liaison with academic units and the Graduate School. Additionally, the director will have responsibility for the graduate Fulbright opportunities as well as the undergraduate Fulbright award program. The director will serve the Office of Undergraduate Education on special projects as may arise and as they permit and/or pertain to the duties and interests of the director.

Candidates with a strong understanding of scholarship, a commitment to high quality undergraduate education, experience in the recognition of high academic achievement and evidence of academic mentoring are highly desired. Excellent communication, interpersonal, quantitative and organizational skills are required, as is the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies, scholarship and fellowship agencies, faculty groups, administrators and students. The director is responsible for supervising staff in the University Fellowships Office. The position is available to qualified faculty and staff. An advanced degree is desirable. This is a Fixed-Term I appointment and is expected to be a nine to 11 month position.

This position is responsible for providing program and administrative support to the

Africa

division of the Center for International Private Enterprise. The program assistant will provide support to the Africa Program Officer in managing grants to private-sector organizations in the region, coordinating in-house projects, and reaching out to stakeholders (business associations, advocacy-focused think tanks, chambers of commerce, and other civil society institutions).

Job Description:

• Assist in writing and compiling weekly and quarterly reports, proposals, and budgets;

• Create and maintain a variety of program files, and maintain project databases;

• Process and track payment requests, narrative and financial reports, grant modifications, etc.

• Liaise with subgrantees and prospective partners in the

Africa

region on administrative and due diligence issues to assist program officer in monitoring and overseeing grants or developing new proposals;

• Assist with consultant contracts and travel arrangements, including collecting CVs and biographical data, securing appropriate approvals, preparing consultant contracts and travel packets, coordinating consultant travel, and processing travel expense reports;

• Coordinate logistics of trainings, workshops, and conferences as needed;

• Prepare correspondence and mailings such as preparing grant agreements, consultant contracts, reporting requirements for subgrantees, and grant modifications;


Qualifications:


Experience or Skills Desired:
• Bachelors degree in international relations, international development, economics, political science, business administration, and/or other related field.

• Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.

• Knowledge of the

Africa

region, with an emphasis on political and economic issues.
• Computer skills, proficiency in Word and Excel. Internet research skills desired.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision

• At least 1 year of administrative office experience. Experience with financial reporting desired.

• Fluency in French is strongly preferred. Fluency in Portuguese and/or Kiswahili is also desirable.
